Programme: Applied Associate Degree in Agricultural Science and Entrepreneurship

About me

Pursuing studies in agricultural entrepreneurship was a natural choice as I have always been surrounded by various facets of the agricultural industry. Growing up in Lowmans Hill. I’ve witnessed many of my family and neighbours rely on agriculture as a source of income. Consequently, I have developed an interest in pursuing a career in agricultural engineering. Most young people tend to shy away from such a hands on career as “working the land” as it may not be as glamourous as many other career choices, but I aspire to work alongside other outstanding individuals in this country’s agricultural sector to enhance the  agricultural industry of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and by extension the entire region.

No one is without need and an education at any level is costly. Every bit counts.  I am extremely grateful and highly indebted to the Mustique Charitable Foundation for selecting me as a recipient of this bursary which would undoubtedly ease my family’s financial burden as well as serve as added motivation towards achieving my goals. However, patience is a big part of me and with these two combinations that come naturally, I know teaching is where I belong. In my opinion college can be very challenging, but I am very determined about what I want to become and working towards it in every possible way I can. I have never received assistance before and this will be a great motivation for me and good help to my parents. I am a student who repeated once and I instantly saw where I went wrong and the amount of money that was wasted. Failure is not falling down, but rather, refusing to get up, and that’s why I will not call myself a failure. I think I deserve this assistance because I am a very persistent person and a good student and because of my past experience I know the value of what I will be getting and I would make full use of it.

Name: Antonell Shallow
Address: Richland Park, St Vincent
Programme: Applied Associate Degree in Hospitality Studies

About me

My name is Antonell Shallow from Richland Park, I am 26 years old and the programme I’m doing is the Associate degree in Hospitality Studies. Getting my associate degree is just a stepping stone; I would love to further my studies in hospitality management and mixology.

My dream is to one day open my own bar and restaurant and/or a bed and breakfast. From a young age I was always taught to be independent, and when I was able to work I started as a simple waitress; I got to meet new people from all over the world, was able to share my culture and make guests feel welcome or make my island a home away from home it made me feel proud to be a Vincentian. My mother always told me do something that you love so that every day you would be happy and always be in element and for me making cocktails is a passion of mine. I love the idea of taking different flavors and turning it into an extraordinary cocktail that will make someone happy no matter who they are.

The road to success is not an easy road and I’m making the ultimate sacrifice. Being the eldest of three I made a promise to my mother on her dying bed that I will take care of my sisters, the youngest is the only one attending school and the money that I worked and saved I know that it won’t last long and in order to make a better life and example for her I decided to pursue my dreams so I can help contribute to make her dreams come true. I wanted her to see that dreams can come true if you have the discipline, remain humble and hard work. Success comes with sacrifice and I’ve been sending myself to school for the past year and I would be honored and grateful to gain this assistance so the remainder of my stay at the Division of Technical and Vocational Education is successful so that I can prove that dreams can and will come true.
